Questions we hear

Ongoing care
to plan around?

Troy's median age is about 42, per the Census Bureau. Here is what people with regular care ask.

“Will my specialist be in network next year?”

Networks can change each year. We look up each doctor in each plan before you choose, and suggest you confirm with the office.

“My drug is expensive. How do I compare?”

Each plan puts drugs on tiers with different costs. We find your drug's tier and what you'd pay at the pharmacy.

“Is there a limit on what I'd pay?”

Yes. Under current law, every marketplace plan has an out-of-pocket maximum for covered, in-network care. For heavy care, that number often matters most.

How we help

Careful checks
for Troy patients.

We can compare Michigan plans from more than one insurer. For ongoing care, we start with your doctors and drugs, then look at the yearly cost.

If you expect to hit the out-of-pocket maximum, a higher premium with a lower cap can cost less overall. We show you both totals.

If you're planning surgery or a new treatment in 2027, we look at what each plan requires for prior approval and which hospitals are in network.

People with a chronic condition often see more than one specialist. We check each one, plus the lab and imaging centers you use.

Mail-order pharmacy can lower the cost of some drugs. We note which plans offer it for yours.

  • Doctor and drug checks for ongoing care
  • Licensed in 20 U.S. states
  • You do not pay us for our help. We are paid by the insurance companies when you enroll. Your price for a plan is the same whether you use us or sign up on your own. Commissions can differ by company.

Straight answers

Troy health insurance questions.

When is open enrollment in Michigan for 2027?

Michigan uses HealthCare.gov. As of October 22, 2026, under current law, open enrollment runs from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A federal appeal about open enrollment dates is pending (City of Columbus v. Kennedy, 4th Cir. No. 26-1938), with oral argument set for October 30, 2026. Confirm the dates before you enroll. Enroll by December 15 for coverage that begins January 1.

Has Michigan expanded Medicaid?

Yes. As of October 22, 2026, Michigan has adopted the ACA Medicaid expansion, according to KFF.

Can a plan refuse me because of my condition?

No. Under current law, marketplace plans can't deny coverage or charge more for pre-existing conditions.

What if my drug isn't on a plan's list?

You can ask the insurer for an exception, but it's not guaranteed. It's usually easier to pick a plan that lists it.

Can I switch plans mid-year if my doctor leaves the network?

Usually not, unless you have a qualifying life event. That's why we check before you enroll.

Are specialist visits covered before the deductible?

Some plans charge a copay before the deductible, others don't. We note which is which.

Can I use Detroit-area hospitals?

Networks differ. We check the hospitals you'd want before you pick.

Is a gold plan worth it for heavy care?

It can be. We compare total yearly cost, not just the premium.

Open enrollment starts November 1
