Health insurance
cost in Florida.

Florida's insurance regulator has posted approved 2027 rates for individual ACA plans, and the average premium is going up. What you pay depends on your county, age, tobacco use, plan level, and income. Here is what the state's numbers show and how to estimate your own price.

What sets your price

What moves your
monthly premium.

HealthCare.gov lists five factors that can affect a plan's monthly premium: location, age, tobacco use, plan category, and whether the plan covers dependents. Three are worth a closer look:

Your county.

Where you live has a big effect on premiums. In the state's 2027 examples, the same Silver shopper's average premium before any tax credit runs from $614 a month in one county to $1,294 in another.

Your age.

Premiums can be up to 3 times higher for older people than for younger ones. So an older adult can be quoted a much higher premium than a younger one for the same plan.

Tobacco use and plan level.

Insurers can charge tobacco users up to 50% more. Plan level matters too. Bronze plans pay about 60% of costs on average and Gold about 80%, and plans with higher monthly premiums usually have lower deductibles.

Working with Paul

A broker who prices
your ZIP code, not an average.

Daniels Health Advisors is the independent brokerage Paul Daniels founded, licensed in 20 U.S. states. Averages are a starting point, but your price depends on your county, ages, and income. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

Have your ZIP code, the ages of everyone you want covered, and a yearly income estimate ready. That is enough for a first quote.

Before you buy

Your price is not
the state average.

Florida's weighted average blends people of every age and county, and it leaves out tax credits. Your premium after any credit can be much lower or higher. HealthCare.gov suggests comparing your estimated total yearly costs for each plan, not just the premium. If you take advance tax credits and your income ends up higher than estimated, you may owe some back. Under current law, starting with 2026 taxes, there is no cap on that payback. After the call you will have:

  • Monthly premiums for your household after any tax credit
  • A note on how your county and ages affect the price
  • A full-year cost estimate for each plan
  • Network results for your doctors

A checklist for

Pricing Florida coverage.

  • Use your own ZIP code, not a statewide average.
  • Estimate household income for the year you want covered.
  • Compare at least one Bronze, one Silver, and one Gold plan.
  • Check whether you qualify for extra savings on a Silver plan.

Florida cost questions

Florida health insurance FAQ.

How much is health insurance in Florida per month?

It depends on your county, age, and income. Florida's insurance office reports an approved 2027 average of $898 a month per person for individual ACA plans, before any tax credit. For a 28-year-old earning $36,000 on an average Silver plan, its county examples run from $212 to $754 a month after the federal subsidy.

Why does my county cost more than the next one?

Location has a big effect on premiums. HealthCare.gov points to differences in competition, state and local rules, and cost of living.

Are Florida premiums going up in 2027?

On average, yes. The state's approved filings show an average rise of 10.4% for individual ACA plans, from $811 to $898 a month per person. That is an average across members, and the state says the figures may change after federal review.

Do I pay more if I smoke?

You may. Insurers can charge tobacco users up to 50% more than people who don't use tobacco. Answer the tobacco question honestly on your application.

Can I get help paying premiums?

You may. In 2026 open enrollment, Florida Marketplace enrollees who got an advance tax credit paid an average of $62 a month after it. Your credit depends on your expected household income for the year and the cost of plans where you live.

Do I have to wait for open enrollment?

Not for every plan. A private plan (not from the Marketplace) can often be bought any time of year. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled. Marketplace plans, and other plans that follow ACA rules, work differently. As of October 26, 2026, under current law, open enrollment for 2027 plans on HealthCare.gov runs from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. States that run their own Marketplace may set different dates, so check with your state's Marketplace. A federal appeal about these rules is pending (City of Columbus v. Kennedy, 4th Cir. No. 26-1938), with oral argument set for October 30, 2026, so confirm the dates before you enroll. Outside open enrollment, you need a special enrollment period, such as one after losing job-based coverage.
