Questions we hear

Home in Ohio,
work next door?

About 9 in 100 Cincinnati residents under 65 had no health plan, per the Census Bureau. People who cross the river for work ask us these.

“I work in Kentucky. Which state do I buy a plan in?”

Generally, you buy a plan in the state where you live. For a Cincinnati home, that means an Ohio plan through HealthCare.gov.

“Can I see doctors near my job in Kentucky?”

It depends on the plan. Each plan has its own network, and some may reach across the river. We look up the doctors you want.

“My pay comes from a Kentucky company. Does that change my tax credit?”

A tax credit is based on your household and the income you expect in 2027. For questions about state taxes, talk with a tax professional.

How we help

Cross-river help
in Cincinnati.

We line up Ohio plans from more than one insurer. You'll see what each one costs per month after any tax credit, and what a full year could cost.

Commuters often care most about where they can get care. For each plan, we look at clinics near home and near work.

If a company across the river offers you a plan, we check whether that offer counts as affordable before you buy your own.

Cincinnati plans each list their own hospitals and doctors. Before you choose, we look up the ones you use in Ohio and across the river.

  • Help for people who work across a state line
  • Licensed in 20 U.S. states · Agent NPN 20986580
  • You do not pay us for our help. We are paid by the insurance companies when you enroll. Your price for a plan is the same whether you use us or sign up on your own. Commissions can differ by company.

Straight answers

Cincinnati health insurance questions.

What are Ohio's 2027 open enrollment dates?

Ohio uses HealthCare.gov. As of October 28, 2026, the site says 2027 open enrollment runs from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still in the courts. Check HealthCare.gov for the latest dates. A plan picked by December 15 can start January 1. One picked by January 15 can start February 1.

Did Ohio expand Medicaid?

Yes. As of October 28, 2026, KFF shows Ohio adopted the ACA Medicaid expansion on January 1, 2014. The state program is called Ohio Medicaid.

What if I move to Kentucky later?

When you move to a new state, you can't keep your Ohio plan. You'd start a new application there, and Kentucky uses its own exchange, kynect.

Does an emergency near my job count?

Under current law, Marketplace plans cover emergency care anywhere in the U.S. For regular care, use doctors in your plan's network when you can.

Do I file taxes in two states?

That's a question for a tax professional. For health coverage, your home state is what counts.

Is Cincinnati in one county?

Yes. Cincinnati is in Hamilton County.

What info helps most on the call?

Your home ZIP code, your 2027 income estimate, and the names of doctors near home and near work.

What kind of plan fits a commuter?

There is no one answer. Some people want a wider network, and others want a lower monthly price. We show you the trade-off.

Open enrollment starts November 1
