Questions we hear

Busy summer,
slow winter?

The Census Bureau puts Buffalo's median household income at $50,041. Seasonal workers here ask us these.

“I earn most of my money from spring to fall. What income do I use?”

Add up what you expect to earn in all of 2027, not just one month. If that changes, update NY State of Health.

“My job plan ends when work slows down. What now?”

Losing job coverage usually opens a 60-day window to pick a new plan. Keep the letter that shows the end date.

“Is there a lower-cost option in New York?”

There may be. NY State of Health says you can enroll in Medicaid, the Essential Plan, or Child Health Plus all year if you qualify.

If you get paid for unemployment during the winter, that money may count as income. A tax professional can help you check.
