Questions we hear

Remote job,
no health plan?

About 31 in 100 Austin workers mostly work from home, per the Census Bureau. Remote workers here often ask us these.

“My company is based in another state. Where do I buy a plan?”

Where you live is what counts. If Austin is home, you shop for a Texas plan, even if your boss is in another state.

“I'm paid as a contractor. Can I still get help with the cost?”

Many contractors can get a tax credit. It is based on your expected income for the year and the size of your household.

“I travel a few weeks a year. Am I covered on the road?”

Under current law, Marketplace plans cover emergency care anywhere in the U.S. Checkups and routine visits usually need to be in your plan's network near home.

How we help

Work-from-home help
in Austin.

We are not tied to one insurer, so we can set Texas plans next to each other. We show the monthly price after any tax credit, plus what you could pay in a year with lots of care.

Some remote jobs give you money toward a health plan instead of a group plan. That kind of offer can change your tax credit, so we look at it with you.

If you work for a startup too small to offer a group plan, a plan you buy yourself stays with you if you change jobs.

Some Austin plans use a smaller group of doctors. We check which clinics near you are in each one.

  • Help for remote and home-based workers
  • Licensed in 20 U.S. states · Agent NPN 20986580
  • You do not pay us for our help. We are paid by the insurance companies when you enroll. Your price for a plan is the same whether you use us or sign up on your own. Commissions can differ by company.

Straight answers

Austin health insurance questions.

When is open enrollment in Texas for 2027?

Texans sign up on HealthCare.gov. As of October 26, 2026, HealthCare.gov says open enrollment for 2027 runs from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still on appeal, with argument set for October 30, 2026. Confirm the dates before you enroll. Pick a plan by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1.

Has Texas expanded Medicaid?

No. As of October 26, 2026, KFF lists Texas as a state that has not adopted the ACA Medicaid expansion. Children and some parents with very low incomes may still qualify for Medicaid or CHIP.

Does my company's location change my price?

No. Plan prices depend on things like your age, your home ZIP code, and the plan you pick. Where your company is located is not one of them.

Can I keep my plan if I move away from Austin?

A move to another state usually means a new plan there. A move inside Texas can change your plan list too. Moving often opens a 60-day window to choose again.

What if my remote job adds a health plan later?

You can usually end your own plan when the job plan starts. Tell HealthCare.gov so any tax credit stops on time.

Is Austin in one county?

No. Most of Austin is in Travis County, and parts reach into Williamson and Hays Counties.

What should I have ready for the call?

Your home ZIP code, an estimate of your 2027 income, and a list of your doctors and drugs.

Is there a Texas penalty for no coverage?

As of October 26, 2026, under current law, Texas has no state penalty and there is no federal one.

Open enrollment starts November 1
